Key Vocabulary for the WCMS
- Accessibility, Web - Refers to the practice of making websites usable by people of all abilities and disabilities.
- Asset – Anything that lives in your folder/directory structure. These can be folders, pages, images, PDFs, external links, a block, etc.
- Breadcrumbs – These normally appear horizontally at the top of a web page. It is a navigation aid used in user interfaces. It gives users a way to keep track of their locations within programs or documents
- Content Block – A pluggable piece of content that can be added into a page region
- CruzIDGold – Your CruzID is your UCSC account, sometimes referred to as your username.
- Dashboard - The Dashboard is your starting point. It's the first place you see after you log in.
- External Link – An asset placed in a folder that points to a web page outside your website. It's index-able so will appear in your left navigation. (This is different than the Internal and External linking)
- Metadata – The data within the WCMS that describes an asset such as title, summary or keywords
- Publish – When you publish your content, it is sent to the campus web servers, it is published from the WCMS and viewed on the web as static HTML pages
- Templates – HTML tags and CSS that create the look and feel of a web page
- WYSIWYG – What You See Is What You Get: Allows you to see formatting while editing your content
